Job Title:  Summer Academy Team Leaders

July 6 – July 30

About the Socio-Economic Development Center for Southeast Asians:

Our mission is to promote the evolution of healthy and productive citizens among people with roots in Southeast Asia by facilitating their transition to life in America while cultivating their Asian heritage.  Our programs support community and economic development, community problem-solving, family harmony, and community well-being.

The SEDC’s Summer Academy promotes academic success, cultural understanding, social awareness and having fun!   The camp focuses on supporting the academic needs of children while incorporating important life lessons in a fun, active, and memorable way.  The Summer Academy is a four week program held at a Providence District School and runs Monday-Friday in July.

Responsibilities:

  • Being a positive mentor and leader for 15-20 middle school aged youth during a four week summer academy
  • Tutoring students in math and English and planning sports and other fundamental activities
  • To help ensure the safety of campers
  • Liaison with parents as needed and make referrals to other SEDC programs
  • Help maintain camp records
  • File reports as requested
  • Other responsibilities as required

Qualifications:

  • Some college
  • Ability to tutor basic English and or Math
  • Experience working with youth a plus
  • BCI background check required
  • Bi-Cultural and/or bi-lingual in one of the following a plus: Hmong, Cambodian, Laotian, or Vietnamese.

Supervision: This position reports to the Summer Academy Coordinator

Census Takers within these areas will make $15 - $16/hour and their Supervisors will make up to $19/hr. In order to effectively and efficiently complete all tasks related to the Census, HUNDREDS of part-time and full-time positions will become available throughout the state. The U.S. Census counts every resident in the United States, and is required by the Constitution to take place every 10 years. The 2010 Census will help communities receive more than $400 billion in federal funds each year for things like:

Senior centers
Bridges, tunnels and other-public works projects
Emergency services
The data collected by the census also help determine the number of seats your state has in the U.S. House of Representatives. Any personal data collected is protected under federal law (nor will be shared with any other branch of the US government).
